Sit and Go Poker Tournaments
A sit and go poker tournament is a lot like one you would play with your friends. As with a game played with your friends a Sit and Go poker tournament starts as soon as all the players are ready, in a poker room this is when all the chairs at the table (or tables) are filled.
Regular poker tournaments are more restrictive and structured. There is a registration period beforehand the start time, they often have a maximum player limit and they have a set starting time. Players are required to register and then wait until the time that the tournament begins. The number of players in a tournament might vary, but play begins at a set time.
Unlike a regular tournament a Sit and Go tournament is much less rigid in its structure. While the poker room sets number of chairs to be filled (a tournament starts when the predetermined number of players is ready) the starting time is flexible.
This is the only major difference between a Sit and Go tournament and a traditional poker tournament, but it is an important difference. Internet poker rooms now appeal to players from every corner of the globe, and Sit and Go tournaments with their flexible starting times are able to start up anytime of the day. Poker players now have the ability to play tournament poker almost on demand, what a convenience.
By far the most popular type of Sit and Go tournament is the single table tournament. Almost every online poker room offers single table Sit and Go tournaments, when offered at popular rooms tables often fill in about a minute.
Most players like the fact that single table tournaments in effect start at the final table, the point at which all the fun starts. Players at a final table are sometimes able to get a read on their opponents and they like that they won't suddenly be moved to another table to balance out the tournament. Players also know that all of the chips are at the one table; no new player with a mega-sized chip stack will suddenly come to the table to play. And players also like that it is easier to figure out how their tournament playing is going; for once a player has to leave the table, no one comes to replace them, the table size simply shrinks down until only the winner is left.
Some poker rooms offer short-handed poker tables where only five or six players compete in a Sit and Go tournament. If you like to play fast and loose, this type of tournament may be to your liking.
Although the single table Sit and Go tournament is the most popular form of tournament there are enough online tournament players that several rooms are offering multi-table Sit and Go tournaments. Multi-table Sit and Go tournaments resemble traditional tournaments; they offer higher prize pools and pay-out to a greater number of players. However the multi-table Sit and Go tournament still has the advantage of beginning when the players want them to. This is an extra convenience that allows multi-table play to become available to those players who have become accustomed to the pace of single table Sit and Go tournaments.
